Main EAASM initiativesThe European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines (EAASM) is an independent, pan-European, nonprofitorganisation dedicated to protecting patient safety by ensuring access to safe and legitimatemedicines. The EAASM champions the fight against falsified medicines and has an ongoingprogramme to support the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive in the hospitalenvironment.It has also embarked on a major medication error and traceability project and has held its firstscientific committee meeting. It intends to carry out a pan-EU survey to assess the capabilities of howhospitals safeguard against medication errors occurring and use the report to highlight best practicesand what needs to be done across hospitals in Europe.The current regulatory frame work for the new and evolving development innovative medicines whichare called nanomedicines is currently not fit for purpose. A scientific appraisal report highlights all ofthe key issues along with a lay document for quicker understanding has been published. The objectivefor this patient safety project is to harmonise and update the regulatory process for the benefit of allEU member States and ultimately help to ensure quality, efficacy and safety of these new medicines.The EAASM is part of the EU Transparency registry which is a mandatory requirement to campaign forchange with the EU institutions.
A number of newsletters were produced and are posted on the EAASM website and which wereemailed to the EAASM Members. The list of members can be found here https://eaasm.eu/engb/home/members-and-fundersThese are circulated to Members and a wider mailing list and the newsletter gives the reader theopportunity to corresponded with the EAASM.In addition a EAASM Board meeting was held in December 2018 with full minutes written and actionsto be taken during 2019/20.(
