Company activities and impact

Severnside Community Rail Partnership CIC has continued to provide a link between local communities and the rail industry. This is based on identifying and implementing measures to ensure that access to local stations is easy and that stations are safe and welcoming. In June 2019 we were amongst the first community rail partnerships to receive formal accreditation from the Department of Transport under their new policy. We have provided a voice for the community by hosting passenger forums, attending Friends of Station meetings and wider community meetings. Information from all of these has been used to help assist our rail industry partners with local insight to allow them to shape rail services and facilities. We have worked with local schools and colleges to ensure that the voices of young people are heard. This included a day for Victoria Park Primary School pupils to become station announcers for the day; arranging for Somerset Bridge Primary School to meet British Transport Police at Temple Meads as part of Rail Week 2019.We worked with Sedgemoor schools on a series of workshops to ask ‘What would you do?’ in relation to such problems as knife crime, vandalism and controlling behaviour. These were recorded to create a film with a rail travel theme. We worked with local schools to create murals at stations to help make stations feel safer and more welcoming. We hosted a number of on train events to encourage rail travel ‘Games on the Train,’ delivered in collaboration with the LinkAge Network, was one example that encouraged participation from those vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation. Healthy Walks from the Railway invites participants to join qualified walk leaders for a journey from Temple Meads to Severn Beach, Yatton or Bradford-on-Avon for a short scenic Sunday walk. We have promoted Days Out from Local Stations through specially commissioned leaflets to highlight free and lower cost attractions. These leaflets can be downloaded from our website. We celebrated 90 years of passenger services from Oldfield Park station which brought together a number of special events. The ‘On Board’ group of station volunteers there retained their outstanding status in the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards.’Our annual progress report details these and many other schemes that Severnside Community Rail Partnership CIC has been and is involved in. The report includes a range of photographs of some of the events and projects. We are also active in showing our work on Facebook and Twitter. www.severnside-rail.org.uk
