1. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Accounting convention |
The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with the exception of certain freehold |
investment properties which have been retained at valuation in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard |
for Smaller Entities, (effective April 2008). |
Tangible fixed assets |

Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits |
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension |
scheme are charged to the profit and loss account in the period to which they relate. |
Income |
Income represents rents receivable from investment properties and finance leases and is entirely attributable to |
the company's principal activity within the United Kingdom. |
Rental income from operating leases is recognised on a straight-line basis over the period of the lease. |
Investment properties |
In accordance with Statement of Standard Accounting Practice 19, investment properties are revalued annually, |
and the aggregate surplus or deficit is transferred to a revaluation reserve. No depreciation is provided in respect |
of these investment properties. The directors consider that this accounting policy results in the accounts giving a |
true and fair view. Depreciation is only one of the many factors reflected in the annual valuation and the amount |
which otherwise might have been shown cannot be separately identified or quantified. |
Operating leases |
The cost of operating leases are charged to the profit and loss account as incurred. |
